This is the first pizza stone my wife and I have ever owned so we weren't sure what to expect. It arrived in once piece (something I was afraid of after reading other reviews!), and we made our first pizza on it a few days ago. It came out pretty good, and I'm glad we bought it!

It is very heavy though, and every time I move it around I'm afraid I'll break it somehow. The instructions say to "just leave it in the stove", which isn't a problem - besides the fact that other meals we cook can get messy (we aren't the best chefs in the world) and I'm afraid of things spilling over onto the stone.

Other than that, the only other thing I have to say is - I need a pizza peel! It was terrifying trying to get our finished pizza onto this hot stone that was already in the oven.

We have owned and used this pizza stone for many years and love it so much that we just purchased it for daughter and family. The stone is as good as all the best ratings proclaim. Just have a couple of things to note for those who just purchased or are considering buying this item.

Leave the pizza stone in the oven - always! This is the best advice we have read, for several reasons, among them:

-When you leave it in the oven, the stone keeps the whole oven heated evenly. EVERYTHING you bake or cook comes out better! Really!

-If you put the pizza stone into an already hot oven, you can be fairly certain it will crack - if not immediately, then later.

The stone will get dirty as it "seasons." If you use it as often as we do for pizza (once a week), take it out of the oven after it has cooled, and just scrape any small debris off the top (we use a metal spatula, think not to gouge!); we then rub it with a piece of paper towel. The stone will eventually take on a great black patina.

Very good advice in many reviews suggests that you use a peel/paddle to place the uncooked pizza on the hot stone. We have a ritual as to how we make our pizza that would take too long to describe here, and you will find and adjust to your own best way.

Just received what I thought would be the latest "Old Stone Oven 4467 14x16 Baking Stone" by Old Stone Oven. What I received was another model without the newer heat core center on the bottom as shown on previous customer image dated 2-9-11. The packaging was good, however, there is no indication on either the box or on the stone itself that it is in fact a "Old Stone Oven" baking stone.

Based on Cook's Illustrated, other customer's recommendations, images and research, I thought I was getting the latest from "Old Stone Oven". Customer service could not guarantee once I return this, that the next one I order would have the newer heat core center with "Old Stone Oven" stamped on the underside nor will it come in a "Old Stone Oven" box (mine was plain without any marking. She recommend I do not re-order at this time.
